Condition 1: Subject to any prohibitions or restrictions contained in any other condition(s), the designated centre shall be operated at all times in accordance with the Statement of Purpose within the footprint of the designated centre on the floor plan received on 18 September 2024. The registered provider shall only provide for the specific care and support needs, and services, within the facilities as set out the Statement of Purpose, as agreed with the Chief Inspector at the time of registration. Any changes to the specific care and support needs and services provided must be agreed in advance with the Chief Inspector. Condition 2: Only persons aged 18 years or older shall be accommodated at the designated centre at any time. Condition 3: The maximum number of persons that may be accommodated at the designated centre is: 24

Valentia Hospital is a small, peaceful nursing home on Valentia Island with 24 residents, mostly in single en-suite rooms. Residents said they were happy, comfortable, and well cared for, with good food and social activities like singing, dancing, and monthly Mass. The home is clean and well maintained, with a lovely garden and sea views. However, some issues were found with fire safety, privacy in twin rooms, outdated policies, and care record keeping. The management is committed to improvements, but some actions are still needed to fully meet regulations.

What needed to improve

Fire safety issues identified in previous inspections remain unresolved, including emergency lighting and fire drills in bedrooms.
Privacy in twin bedrooms is inadequate due to short privacy screens that cannot fully enclose beds.
