Condition 1: Subject to any prohibitions or restrictions contained in any other condition(s), the designated centre shall be operated at all times in accordance with the Statement of Purpose received 14 September 2026 within the footprint of the designated centre on the floor plan received 30 July 2026. The registered provider shall only provide for the specific care and support needs, and services, within the facilities as set out the Statement of Purpose, as agreed with the Chief Inspector at the time of registration. Any changes to the specific care and support needs and services provided must be agreed in advance with the Chief Inspector. Condition 2: Only persons aged 18 years or older shall be accommodated at the designated centre at any time. Condition 3: The maximum number of persons that may be accommodated at the designated centre is: 51.

What the latest inspection found

Gowran Abbey Nursing Home is a well-run, purpose-built single-storey centre with 51 single ensuite bedrooms. Residents and visitors spoke very positively about the care, food, and activities. The staff are kind, respectful, and attentive, and the environment is comfortable and homely. Some improvements are needed in fire safety management, notification of incidents, and recognition of certain restraints, but overall residents' needs are well met.

Residents greatly liked living in the home and praised the care and staff team spirit.
Food quality, quantity, and variety were highly praised by residents.
There is a varied activities programme including singing, rosary, nail care, and Mass.
The centre is well maintained, pleasantly decorated, and has multiple comfortable communal areas.
Staff and management are knowledgeable about residents' needs and promote dignity and respect.

What needed to improve

Some fire safety risks remain, including storage practices and evacuation planning.
The provider did not notify the Chief Inspector of all uses of restrictive practices like half bed rails.
Floor plans submitted with registration application had inaccuracies and did not reflect some room changes.
Restraints such as half bed rails were not fully risk-assessed or recognized as restrictive.
Further work is needed to complete fire safety upgrades and ensure full compliance.
