Condition 1: Subject to any prohibitions or restrictions contained in any other condition(s), the designated centre shall be operated at all times in accordance with the Statement of Purpose within the footprint of the designated centre on the floor plan received on 12.02.2024. The registered provider shall only provide for the specific care and support needs, and services, within the facilities as set out the Statement of Purpose, as agreed with the Chief Inspector at the time of registration. Any changes to the specific care and support needs and services provided must be agreed in advance with the Chief Inspector. Condition 2: Only persons aged 18 years or older shall be accommodated at the designated centre at any time. Condition 3: The maximum number of persons that may be accommodated at the designated centre is 96.

What the latest inspection found

Dunshaughlin Care Home is a large nursing home with 96 single en-suite rooms, providing care for older people including those with dementia and palliative needs. Residents and visitors spoke positively about the kindness of staff, the activities available, and feeling safe and respected. However, inspectors found that care plans were not always clear or followed, staff training was incomplete especially in catheter care and managing challenging behaviour, and there were issues with clinical oversight leading to frequent hospital transfers. Management acknowledged these problems and were working to improve them.

All bedrooms are single rooms with en-suite facilities, providing privacy and comfort.
Residents reported feeling safe, respected, and treated with dignity by staff.
There is a wide variety of activities available, including arts and crafts, bingo, and outings, which residents enjoy.
Staff are observed to be kind, caring, and respectful in their interactions with residents.
Residents have opportunities to participate in meetings and educational sessions about their rights and safety.

What needed to improve

Care plans were often inconsistent, unclear, or not followed, especially regarding catheter care and managing behaviours that challenge.
Staff training was incomplete; many staff lacked training in catheter care and managing aggression, despite residents needing this support.
