Drumbear Lodge Nursing Home is a single-storey centre near Monaghan town, providing long-term, respite, and convalescence care for up to 90 residents, including those with dementia and palliative needs. On inspection, residents generally felt cared for and comfortable, praising some staff as 'like a mother' and 'brilliant'. However, there were concerns about frequent staff changes, communication difficulties with some staff, and loud, frequent alarms disrupting residents' rest. The management structure was unstable with no person in charge on the day, leading to poor oversight and inconsistent care practices. While food was described as very good with choices available, some mealtime experiences lacked dignity and engagement. Activities were offered but some residents spent long periods alone. Infection control and medication management practices required improvement to ensure resident safety.
