Carrigoran House

• “There had been a deterioration in the service over the last short months”
• “Staff did not always know their individual needs and wishes”
• “Staff were very apologetic when delays occurred”
• “I had to wait over an hour each night to return to bed”
• “Residents were acutely aware that staff were under pressure and sometimes did not call for assistance”

Staffing

There is a high turnover of staff and frequent shortfalls in staffing levels, including a shortfall of two healthcare assistants on the inspection day. Staff are not always familiar with residents' specific care needs due to poor communication and supervision. The service relies on staff working additional hours, which is not sustainable.

Activities

Residents were observed engaged in a variety of group activities during the day, though some residents preferred to stay in their rooms. In one unit, residents in a communal room were unsupervised for long periods with no social interaction observed.
